Even CNN Won’t Buy Democrat Lies on “Voter Suppression”

Colorado Senator Angela Giron was recalled last Tuesday.  While most experts on both sides of the political spectrum have labeled this defeat to her position opposing the second amendment, Democrat Senator Giron has a different stance:

I mean, yes, we had a strong NRA and you have a person like Mr. Head. But really, what this story really is about, it's about voter suppression.

Democrats and their far left liberal allies have been using false claims of “voter suppression” to try to drive up turnout of their base and to blame their losses for years.  They have presented no proof of suppression and to her credit; CNN’s Brooke Baldwin was have none of it.

OK, forgive me, but I'm going to cut you off right there because if we talk voter suppression, I've read reports of lack of popularity on your behalf. Let's not go there, let's get to the meat of the story, which is this gun control –

Baldwin had her own agenda to talk about “gun control” but that was a legitimate story as Michael Bloomberg and other second amendment opponents spent an incredible amount of to defend the unpopular Senator Giron (who was also opposed for her stance on issues such as “renewable energy and Arkansas River water rights”), much more than the NRA.

Maybe that is why a desperate Giron pulled out the preposterous and offensive voter suppression charge.  She knew the NRA was grossly out spent and she still lost.  Thank you to Ms. Baldwin for rightly trying to stop Giron from trotting an old false and untrue charge.

RNLA Board Member Testifies about the Second Amendment

RNLA Board of Governors member Charles Cooper testified today before the Senate Judiciary Committee concerning “Proposals to Reduce Gun Violence: Protecting Our Communities While Respecting the Second Amendment.”   Cooper’s written testimony declares that the proposed semiautomatic assault weapons ban and prohibition on high capacity gun magazines “would violate the Second Amendment by prohibiting the use of arms that are in common use by ordinary Americans for self defense and other lawful purposes.”

Cooper identified a few pertinent legal points: the Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment protects an individual right; the Second Amendment is not a second class right; and the Second Amendment enshrined the scope of when it was adopted.  He said that it is an “enumerated constitutional provision that protects a particular type of personal property.”  Cooper explained that the Constitution protects Second Amendment rights to bear arms much as the First Amendment protects a right to bear a copy of a Bible, Koran or other religious book.

Cooper has extensive experience with Second Amendment matters.  In the Heller case, Cooper submitted an amicus brief on behalf of former officials in the Department of Justice arguing that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms.   Cooper also served as Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma to present oral arguments on cases involving the Second Amendment.  He is currently litigating cases for clients such as the National Rifle Association to vindicate rights under the Second Amendment.
