New Blumenthal Emails Call Clintons Credibility Into Question

On Monday, The House Select Committee on Benghazi reported 60 newly released emails between Clinton and Sidney Blumenthal regarding Libya that were never turned over to the committee. The committee deposed Blumenthal recently and discovered that half of Secretary Clinton’s public record concerning the issue regarded emails from Blumenthal. Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) stated,

Once again the Benghazi Committee uncovers information that should already be part of the public record but was not made available to the American people or congressional investigators.

Gowdy notes that this information could have been missed altogether had the committee not called Blumenthal. He also notes,

It is significant our top diplomat was directly receiving unvetted intelligence information, which may have come from sources with financial interests in Libya.

According to the Committee, Blumenthal passed along intelligence memos he did not author or vet the credibility of the memo’s author, yet qualified the credibility. Gowdy believes this calls to question Secretary Clinton’s credibility as well. He said,

It is clear from these emails Secretary Clinton encouraged Mr. Blumenthal to send them in some instances calling into question her previous characterization of them as ‘unsolicited

With 120 pages of new emails, the transparency of Secretary Clinton’s self-selected record should be questioned, and the State Department should ensure a complete record of the former Secretary’s time in office is provided for the public and Congress.
