RNLA’s 2015 National Policy Conference In The News

The RNLA’s 2015 successful 30th Anniversary National Policy Conference has been in the news over the past week. Here are a few links and highlights in case you missed it:

Richard Wiley in Washington is Crowned 'Ultimate Republican Lawyer'

In Washington, there are lawyers, Republicans and Republicans’ lawyers. Richard Wiley, chairman and co-founder of Wiley Rein, is a step above the others, according to the Republican National Lawyers Association.
He’s the “ultimate Republican lawyer,” Michael Thielen, the group’s executive director, said.
And thus, last week, Wiley received the association’s highest honor, an award commemorating former Attorney General Edwin Meese.
Republicans talk of an imperial presidency - and royalty visits the White House
Stand back, now. “The Rise of the Imperial Presidency” was the official theme for the Republican National Lawyers Association gathered to celebrate the august organization’s 30th anniversary with a conference and private reception, plus a bristling guest list that included Sens. Bob Corker, Rob Portman, John McCain and Orrin Hatch; Rep. Susan Brooks; former Attorney General John Ashcroft; and former FCC Chairman John Wiley, among others.
Senator: Iran bill will beat Obama veto
Legislation requiring congressional review of any Iran nuclear deal will get the 67 Senate votes needed to overcome a presidential veto, Sen. Bob Corker predicted Friday.
The Tennessee Republican said despite “drama” around the issue in recent weeks, he believes his legislation will be successful.
“I believe ultimately we will have a veto-proof majority to make that happen,” Corker said during a speech at the Republican National Lawyers Association’s 2015 National Policy Conference.
The Foreign Relations Committee is expected to mark up Corker's bill next month, after a deadline for negotiators to reach a framework for a final deal.
GOP senator: Obama isn't 'comfortable' being commander in chief
Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said Friday that President Obama isn't "comfortable" making military decisions. "I think this president has never ever been comfortable being commander in chief. He's just not comfortable," Corker said during the Republican National Lawyers Association’s 2015 National Policy Conference.
"He has decision memo after decision memo after decision memo sitting on his desk, I know they are there ... and he cannot bring himself to do it."
Corker was responding to a question about why the United States hasn't provided lethal military support to Ukraine to help combat Russian-backed separatists.
